Introduction to Physics & Chemistry (IPC)
In this class students will be learning core concepts of Physics and Chemistry. Students will use laboratory explorations, simulations, research, discussion and inquiry to explore how concepts of physical science (physics and chemistry) apply to both natural and human-made phenomena (unique events), as well as everyday life. Students will learn how to think and act like scientists in order to understand how objects interact, what substances are made of, how the natural world works, and how we use this knowledge to innovate and solve real world problems. Science is an activity-based experience. We will combine inquiry and class activities, texts, visuals and research to help us learn the big concepts of physical science. Our units will focus on forces and motion, properties of matter, chemical reactions, conservation of mass and energy, and energy transfer. We will work collaboratively to collect and analyze data and use this evidence to support explanations of each event.

AP Physics

AP® Physics C is a calculus based course equivalent to a semester-long calculus based college Engineering Physics course.  The course is split into two parts.  The focus of this class will be Mechanics.  Students who complete this course will be well prepared to take both the AP Physics C: Mechanics, and move on to topics on electricity and magnetism when arriving at college.  Exams will occur during the 2nd week of AP exams in May.  

In the course, students will participate in inquiry-based explorations of topics in Mechanics to develop a deep conceptual understanding of these topics. Students will spend less of their time in traditional formula-based learning and more of their effort will be directed to developing critical thinking and reasoning skills, both in a lab setting and in solving word problems.  Calculus is a co-requisite for the course.  Throughout the year students will learn how to apply a variety of mathematical tools, including calculus, to make predictions of physical phenomena.
