GEOMETRY BLOCK SYLLABUS

Geometry emphasizes both basic skills and problem solving strategies. The key ideas for the year are inductive and deductive reasoning, parallel and perpendicular lines, angle relationships, triangle congruence, properties and attributes of triangles, polygons and quadrilaterals, similarity, right triangles, trigonometry, perimeter, circumference, area, volume, circles and transformations.
ONLINE LEARNING
We will meet daily (synchronous learning) via Zoom to learn new material, work with fellow students in breakout rooms and use online programs to assist in learning. Students may do more work (homework) on their own (asynchronous learning) for about 20 to 30 minutes a day.

The Savvas website is rich with resources to assist you with your homework. Access the website at http://bit.ly/TSDEasyBridge. Your login name is your 6 digit student ID and use your district password.
MATERIALS
Each student will need to provide a spiral notebook, graph paper, pencils, pens and an inexpensive scientific calculator. In addition to standard operations, the calculator should be able to perform the following functions: square root, exponents, scientific notation and trig functions (sin, cosine, tangent). A digital calculator is available at https://www.desmos.com/scientific.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Students will be responsible for verifying their own attendance through RollCall. Your attendance is necessary in order to receive teacher explanations/ demonstrations, participate in activities and complete practical skill building exercises. Assisting students in establishing lifelong habits of reliability and promptness is an instructional objective in this particular course. Progress toward this goal will be measured, at least in part, by tracking student attendance. Therefore, a student’s grade or credit in this class may be adversely affected by reason of tardiness or absence.
Please get into the habit of checking Google Classroom when you are absent. Classroom is updated daily with worksheets, notes and homework due. It is your responsibility to inquire about missing work.
GRADING SCALE – QUARTER 1/3 – GEOMETRY LAB
Quarter 1 and quarter 3 grades will reflect a student’s grade in geometry lab and is an elective credit. Geometry Lab is graded on a student’s daily participation in class (synchronous) and outside of class (asynchronous) learning. In Skyward, you will see this grade reflected in the category Daily Work.
Daily Work: 100%
*Skyward will continue to show Quizzes and Tests, as the cumulative of both Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 makes up Quarter 2 grades - see below.
GRADING SCALE -QUARTER 2/4 -GEOMETRY
Quarter 2 and quarter 4 grades will reflect a student’s grade in geometry and is a math credit. Geometry is graded on a student’s daily participation (synchronous and asynchronous), and the demonstration of their knowledge in quizzes and tests. These three categories are weighted in the following way:
Daily work (homework and classroom participation) 20%
Quizzes 30%
Assessments 50%
Homework – Full credit for late homework can be earned as long as all assignments are turned in on test day.
Tests and Quizzes – Tests or quizzes missed due to absence will be made up in class when you return. Quizzes may be re-taken once before the chapter test to improve your skills and score.

I am available daily during Power Hour (11:45 to 12:10) and also during Office Hours before school 8:30 to 8:55 and after school 2:30 to 3:00. The Zoom link is posted in Classroom.
