Class Information

English 9
English 9 is a two-semester course required of all freshmen that improves writing, reading, speaking/listening, language and research skills as outlined in the Common Core State Standards for grade 9. Students read literary and informational texts; write essays in the informative/explanatory, argumentative and narrative modes; and participate in independent and group speaking/listening activities and research projects. Independent reading is required.

English 11
English 11 is a two-semester course that builds upon and improves students’ writing, reading, speaking/listening, language and research skills as outlined in the Common Core State Standards for grade 11. Students read literary and informational texts; write essays in the informative/explanatory, argumentative and narrative modes; and participate in individual and group speaking/listening activities and research projects. Science-Fiction Literature
Science-Fiction Literature is a one-semester elective exploring the literary side of time travel, aliens, and artificial intelligence in fiction and non-fiction. Students explore a range of texts, both fiction and non-fiction, across a variety of media and write a number of both short and long responses to those texts. More information can be found on the Tahoma Sci-Fi website
