Class Information

English 9
In this class, students will improve their writing, reading, speaking/listening, language, and research skills outlined in the 9th grade Common Core State Standards. Students will read literary and informational texts; write essays in the informative/explanatory, argumentative, and narrative modes; and participate in independent and group speaking/listening activities and research-based projects. Independent reading is required.

English 10
In this class, students will examine the importance of understanding one’s cultural identity. Using the Springboard textbook for 10th grade, students will consider how perspectives and beliefs compare with those of other cultures. To accomplish this, students will read a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts, research and compose several papers, and make speeches and presentations. In addition, this course will address the Common Core State Standards for 10th grade, as well as prepare students for the graduation exam.
