Class Information

UW Chemistry 110
UWHS is a dual credit or concurrent enrollment program. In a dual credit program, students can earn high school and college credit at the same time. Students have the option to register for UW credit and will receive a registration form and fact sheet from the teacher. There is a deadline for students to register. Deadlines for drop/withdrawal, how to order UW transcripts, contacting the UWHS office, and other details are posted on the program site:  https://www.uwhs.uw.edu/

Course Description
UWHS Chemistry 110 is an introduction to general chemistry with an emphasis on developing problem solving skills. The course covers basic concepts of chemistry along with the mathematics required for quantitative problem solving. For students without high school chemistry or with limited mathematics background. Successful completion of CHEM 110 prepares students to enroll in CHEM 142 while also fulfilling the general education requirement for (NW) The Natural World at the University of Washington.

Introductory Physics and Chemistry (IPC / aka Physical Science)
Course Description
In this class students will be learning core concepts of Physics and Chemistry. Students will use laboratory explorations, simulations, research, discussion and inquiry to explore how concepts of physical science (physics and chemistry) apply to both natural and human-made phenomena (unique events), as well as everyday life. Students will learn how to think and act like scientists in order to understand how objects interact, what substances are made of, how the natural world works, and how we use this knowledge to innovate and solve real world problems. Science is an activity-based experience. We will combine inquiry and class activities, texts, visuals and research to help us learn the big concepts of physical science. Our units will focus on forces and motion, properties of matter, chemical reactions, conservation of mass and energy, and energy transfer. We will work collaboratively to collect and analyze data and use this evidence to support explanations of each event.
